Diabetes Educator

Diabetes educators are in the front line of the diabetes management team. As it is said, “managing diabetes is not just science, but it is also an art”. The role of the educator is to help people with diabetes to manage their diabetes by making smart choices and take actions based on informed judgment. Diabetes educators may come from a variety of health professions and other backgrounds.

QUALIFICATION:

MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS and medical qualification registered with respective State council, BSc Nursing, BSc Nutrition, BSc Physiotherapy, B.Sc Occupational Therapy.

DURATION:

4 months classroom course which shall be conducted twice weekly.

COURSE INSTRUCTOR:

  • Diabetalogist/ Nephrologist / Cardiologist / Opthalmologist / Foot Care Surgeon, Dietician and nutritionist, Psychologist, Industrial Experts

 

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The course runs briefly through what exactly is diabetes, its pathophysiology, types and its extent in the world. The instructor trains the educator regarding the self- management of diabetes along with lifestyle intervention.

The educator shall also be trained into psychological counselling of a patient with diabetes, their nutrition therapy, pharmacotherapy and the latest advances in management of diabetes.

The educator shall also be made acquainted with the latest devices and how they are to be used, complications of diabetes and its care and management.

Lecture Presentation, Small group Activities, Short scenarios, Skill presentations and skill practice, Real time scenarios, Guided discussion
